The article analyses learning related to experiencing violence in social actions and movements. Activists may experience physical abuse from individuals organised entities such as the police, both accidentally a form of intentional repression. Applying movement approach analysis individual experience, collective responses violence, preparations for eventuality its occurrence allowed us identify functionalities protest culture towards de-escalation violence. offers review literature well an empirical data our previous research projects. result is model movements about linking suffering with potential change.
